Role Description
The PVD & Electroplating Executive will handle the plating and coating section of the faucet/CP fitting plant. The role includes managing plating baths, PVD machines, ensuring color consistency, thickness, adhesion, and good surface finish. The person will also ensure chemical safety, reduce defects, and achieve production targets cost-effectively.
Primary Responsibilities
Production & Process Management
- Oversee daily operations of electroplating lines and PVD coating chambers.
- Ensure plating baths and PVD chambers run with proper parameters (temperature, voltage, current density, vacuum, gas flow, etc.).
- Plan production schedules to meet plating/PVD output and finish requirements.
- Monitor pre-treatment, cleaning, activation, and rinsing processes for consistent quality.
- Ensure proper jigging, loading/unloading of components to minimize damage and ensure uniform coating.
- Manage thickness, adhesion, and colour consistency of plating/PVD layers.
Quality Assurance & Problem Solving
- Inspect plated/coated parts for surface finish, thickness, adhesion, and defects (blistering, peeling, burning, pitting, colour mismatch, etc.).
- Conduct root cause analysis of coating defects and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Work with the Quality team to ensure compliance with standards (IS, ISO, internal quality requirements).
- Support new product development trials and shade matching in plating/PVD.
- Maintain detailed process and quality records for audits and certifications.
Equipment, Chemicals & Maintenance
- Monitor and maintain electroplating baths (nickel, chrome, copper, etc.) including chemical dosing, filtration, and rectifier controls.
- Maintain PVD coating machines (target replacement, chamber cleaning, pump maintenance).
- Ensure calibration and upkeep of measuring instruments (thickness testers, adhesion testers, spectrophotometers).
- Coordinate with the maintenance team for preventive and breakdown maintenance of plating/PVD equipment.
Resource & Cost Optimization
- Track and optimize consumption of chemicals, targets, gases, and utilities to minimize cost.
- Ensure recovery and recycling of precious metals (nickel, chromium etc.) where applicable.
- Implement process improvements to reduce wastage, rejection, and rework.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) norms, especially in chemical handling, waste disposal, and fume management.
- Implement lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives in the plating/PVD section.
- Maintain statutory compliance records related to effluent treatment, hazardous chemical storage, and environmental audits.
Reporting & People Management
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly plating and PVD performance reports (output, rejection, chemical consumption, downtime).
- Train operators and helpers on safe handling of chemicals, plating/PVD best practices, and quality control.
- Conduct daily review meetings for production, quality, and safety performance.
